A Marvel | Mona Athens

Mona Athens. A beautifully preserved and magically decorated in the most unique aesthetic that feels like a living museum from the moment you step inside. Tucked away at the edge of Psyrri, Athens, it is in the heart of the action. Its historic beauty is garnished with beautiful artistic pieces, by various Greek artists, available to purchase. We were blown away by the unique and traditional pieces created by hand by Anna Karountzou

The hotel combines luxury with sustainable elements, making this a hotel that uses the very foundations of our earth to create a cosy, warm, homely and stunning. Mona has a sister hotel, in Kolonaki area, Shila, equally as alluring, with one of a kind rooms that evoke every emotion. Greek essence is found throughout, with exposed brick, ceramics, stone, warm textures, neutral tones, and more. The first impression of the room captured the feeling of a film set. Delicate music was playing in the room upon arrival, a sophisticated touch to add atmosphere and style. Touches such as patterned glass, twinkled by night. Modern avant garde art hung proudly on the walls adding poetic morphemes to this beautiful blank canvas. Mona will leave you not only motivated to explore the divine ancient ruins of Athens, but inspire you to write, to live more in the moment, and to appreciate the silent moments.

The Suite

The suite was huge, and a homely experience was beautifully executed. A coffee machine, and a selection of teas were available with Anna's teapots. A well stocked minibar and snacks and a sink. A large bronze velvet chais lounge adorned the living space, a marvellous place to sit and escape in music or reading. The bathroom, was a mix of industrial coppers, marble sink, a rainfall shower and the most delightful bathtub overlooking the rooftops. An iPad was at our disposal, with communication to the front desk 24 hours a day, and the opportunity to order breakfast to your room.

A large open space with the most divine bed, awaited. Cloudy pillows, elegant tones and a dreamy mattress, treated with olive oil, was wonderful for both relaxation and a good night's sleep. Artistic books and magazines await. These rooms take serenity to the next level. You will not find a TV in this room, simply put, Mona give a nod to slow living, mindfulness and beyond anything, stillness. A rack full of clothes and items available to buy add decoration, including a delightful jade silk ribbon, the Flora Ribbon by MIA PAPA.

You will find 5 star cleanliness throughout. The suite and hotel was spotlessly clean. Furthermore, every single detail is custom, hand-made or recycled from found materials. It is then crafted and fabricated into luxury by the House of Shila. Every raw material has a rich touch, and this stripped back luxury makes you want to sink into Athenian history whilst watching the world go by from the windows.

The Breakfast

Applying the same theme to breakfast, healthy tasteful and artistic delights were available. Two choices, a savoury and a sweet. The sweet choice was a rich healthy yogurt dish, with a plethora of delightful additions. A cappuccino was the perfect accompaniment. Breakfast is served also downstairs in the restaurant/cafe area. Again, this space is an inspirational artistic spot to sit and read, work on the laptop. Exuberant pieces of art are awaiting, with large wooden tables, comfy chairs, everything here feels once again like a unique movie set.

The concept Living Room and Rooftop is open to members, make sure you apply to the HOS membership here
